Donna describes the beginning of Connecting Streams and how the ministry reaches out to society's marginalized:
My first involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ (now Power to Change) was on a summer mission trip when I was in Bible college. I had been a believer maybe two years and wanted to go overseas, but the Lord sent me to Vancouver. Eleven years later, I’d completed seminary and was serving as a pastor, but I felt the Lord calling me out of the church. I resigned, not knowing where I'd go, but confident that whatever He was calling me to next would have some sort of global focus. Cam and Karen Shenk suggested that I connect with Leonard. When he shared the vision of reaching citie

Jarret recalls his first encounter with Athletes in Action:
I was a new believer at the University of Alberta through an organization called Young Life. I was on the wrestling team and at that time spent a couple of years wavering in my faith. One day a woman named Roxanne showed up and introduced herself to the team. One of the reasons Roxanne was able to come and speak to our wrestling team at UofA was because our coach knew of Athletes in Action’s reputation within the Canadian wrestling world. She said, “I’m Roxanne and we’re starting up Athletes in Action on campus. If you want to integrate faith and sports, c’mon out! We’re going to start weekly meetings.”
I thought about how similar it sounded to Young Life but for athletes. I went out to the first event and I was wearing my pilsn

Brent describes his first involvement with Athletes in Action and how God turned his life around.
I was 25 and dealing cocaine as a bartender at a strip bar on Hastings Street. I knew I had to get out of Vancouver, and my parents were with Salvation Army, so I went to live with them in Regina. I started going to church with them and cleaning up. One day this old guy at our church told me I needed to go to an Athletes in Action planning breakfast. I didn’t know what AIA was, but I was the only athlete in the church. They were getting ready for a Celebration of Champions Grey Cup Breakfast. For the first time, I saw people who were having fun and praying. I went to these planning meetings and saw people having fun, loving the Lord, praying, and having prayers answered. I wanted to be a part of something like that.
The easiest volunteer position I could find in the ministry was arranging housing for vi

Gordon shares how he helped bring Campus Crusade for Christ to South Africa:
In 1995, I took members of parliament and businessmen on an outreach trip to South Africa one year after Nelson Mandela was elected. They got so excited and they wanted to start a Christian Embassy. I came back and told Leanne, “you know, we could help them start that thing. If they have a staff couple who wants to start it, we can bring them here and train them, or we can go over there and work with them to establish this all.” A year later, we moved to South Africa to do just that and were there for nine years. We started working in executive ministry to help fill a need there and ended up directing the Campus Crusade ministry in South Africa.

1994 – Dorrie Manu
https://p2c.com/wp-content/uploads/1994/09/dorrieBlockManuR.jpg
Dorrie tells a story of how God used her to reach a fellow student with the news of Christ:
In my first year at Queens University, I was on a study floor. I thought I would become very studious but did more ministry than studying. There were 50 girls on that floor. 10 of them were believers to start, but their number grew to 20 by the end of the school year. They had such a rich receptivity to the Gospel.
I would follow up with spiritual interest surveys from the campus. The people we met with would ask such good questions when we got together. I went with one of the first year girls (who I was discipling during my second year of study) to meet with a philosophy master's student who identified herself as an atheist. Back in the 1990's, there weren't a lot of people who were devout atheists.

Linda uses the Jesus Film to minister to a village in Cameroon and receives a powerful response from the locals:
On a trip to Cameroon, in West Africa, we arrived at the place we were to minister to the locals in the evening. A soon as we got out, we wondered where the people were. Once it became dark, they started to come out of the bush from all over. There were a few missionaries in the area that we worked with. There was an invitation for people to come forward if you had prayed and asked Jesus into your heart, and the whole crowd moved forward. The person on the mic then said, "Wait a minute, let me explain the Gospel again." After he explained it, he then said, "If you prayed and asked Jesus into your heart, come forward." They all moved forward. The missionaries could not believe it!
The missionaries were overwhelmed by the respons

Dave describes his first involvement with Athletes in Action and his passion for the ministry:
Rushia (my wife) and I came to Vancouver to finish off our teaching degrees at Simon Fraser University, intent on returning to the north to work full time. I heard they were having tryouts for the men’s basketball team, so I decided to give it a try. I had played years earlier in college, but I thought I was too old for it now and expected to get cut. I made it right to the end. One of the coaches approached me and asked if I would be interested in being captain of the junior varsity team, helping develop some of the younger guys. He didn’t even have it out of his mouth before I said yes.
Three years earlier, I had committed my life to Christ. Now looking for a Christian connection, I left my name at the Campus Crusade for Christ booth during

Mike experiences ministry "on the edge" and learns more about the incredible character of God:
One thing the ministry has always done was push me out into the arena of the unknown. It's the area of faith, of living on the edge. So I did this project in India during 1986 and had a specific picture of what I wanted to do; I was to lead the team in showing the Jesus Film. We started off in LA and loaded up with all sorts of recording equipment. The next morning, Blair, who was supposed to lead the project in India, bailed because he had an abscessed tooth and put me in charge of the project. I had never been on an international project! So I’m thin

Rod Alm moved from the University of British Columbia to the University of Saskatchewan: where he and others would help in the process of integrating Campus Crusade for Christ International into the Catholic world.
The year of 1986-1987 at the University of Saskatchewan, we had over 200 students involved in small group discipleship with Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC). Many from that first wave of U of S graduates went into the ministry. Andre and Angele Regnier were two outstanding students who seemed to be made for the ministry. I challenged them to join the CCC staff. Andre and Angele were Catholics who had intimate personal relationships with Christ. They asked if they would have to leave the Catholic church to join CCC. I said, “I don't think so, but is it possible for you to find support for an evangelical cause from within the Catholic church?” They proved over time that

Rod organizes a debate over the existence of God featuring Fred Edwards, an atheist, versus Dr. William Lane Craig:
A retired chemist with forest products company MacMillan Bloedel challenged Fred Edwards, the atheist president of the American Humanist Association, headquartered in New York, and the editor of the anti-Christian magazine "Creation-Evolution", to debate him at UBC on the creation versus evolution issue in January of 1985. The kindly elderly chemist asked me if Campus Crusade for Christ would organize and publicize the debate on campus, as he was partially paralyzed from a stroke. Fred Edwards was a young, athletic, dynamic communicator. Despite my reservations I agreed to book a UBC lecture hall and promote the debate.

Barry describes an experience in Ottawa where he shared his faith with one of the members of parliament:
In 1978, I went to the Confederation Building in Ottawa for a meeting with my member of Parliament. I told him, "I came primarily to encourage you as an elected leader. I want to thank you for your service and for being a member of parliament, and I’d like to share a bit about my faith." So I shared my testimony. He said “Can you stop for a second? I’d like to bring my daughter in, who is in the other office.” I said sure, and then he asked me to share with her what I shared with him.
I went through the whole thing again. What was supposed to be a fifteen-minute interview had turned into an hour and a half meeting. I was praising the Lord that this guy was wide open to faith. As I walked down the front steps of the Confederation

I attended the University of Calgary and played on the basketball team. Michael Horner was a teammate, and we developed a friendship playing basketball every day to get better. An American Athletes in Action team came through Alberta. They shared testimonies during halftime, and Michael told his story which was very unusual. During the team meeting after the game, I was asking all of the questions of AIA. It really was the spirit of God talking to me because I had very little spiritual background.
One of the AIA players invited me out for breakfast the next morning and we chatted for a long time. They followed up with me, and I started going to the MOB meetings. About three months later, I was sitting on the side

Nathan discovers a new vision of campus ministry through a conversation with John Wienes:
In my last year on campus at the University of Saskatchewan, I was asked to run the campus ministry. I sat down with John Wienes, from Here'sLife, and he asked me about my vision for the campus ministry. I said, "Well, John, here’s my vision. We’ll do some evangelism because we did that the year before, we’ll have some Bible studies because we did that the year before, and we’ll have weekly meetings because we did that the year before." John Wienes says to me, "Nathan, your vision is far too small. It needs to be about giving every student on campus a chance to hear about Christ this year." That one statement changed the trajectory of that year, and maybe my life. Over the course of that year,

Michael connects with the football team at the University of Toronto and introduces them to Athletes in Action:
I wanted to do something big at the Univerisity of Toronto. In my first week on campus, I set up a meeting with the football team. I stepped out of my comfort zone. It was scary to go to the coach and ask if I could come in and share about Athletes in Action and what we had to offer them. When I talked about a personal relationship with Christ, they wanted to know more. It was very similar to what my situation had been growing up in a Catholic background. 28 of the football players filled out the comment cards indicating that they invited Christ into their heart. That's the way it started at UofT. It was just awesome!

Dave helps a man discover Christ through spiritual dialogue and later answers a question a donor has about if his donations are worth it:
At the University of Manitoba, there was a guy that came to the Lord, Jurgen S (Mike). At our meetings, there was one guy who made a commitment and we were doing a follow-up but he just wasn’t showing up. Finally, 30-40mins later, he shows up but he has another guy with him. The guy, Wayne, who had supposedly prayed was not interested in spiritual things but the friend he brought with him, Jurgen/Mike was asking a lot of tough questions. So we ended up dialoguing a long time and he became a Christian. That night, he drove home and goes, “God, if you are what this Dave Beck has been telling me I don’t need these cigarettes anymore” and tossed them out his car and never smoked again.

Bob talks about his first encounter with Campus Crusade for Christ during his time in the CFL:
My first touch with Campus Crusade for Christ was in my second year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, when I was 22. They started a chapel program under the leadership of Doc Eshleman, and it was mandatory for everyone. Some of the players were kicking and scratching because they didn’t want to be there, but I was impressed with the program. Attendance was voluntary after the first one, but I continued to go.
One time a Minneapolis businessman came to do a chapel and I was impressed that he would take the time to do so at three o’clock in the afternoon. He left his home, business, and family to be with a bunch of jocks. I was even more impressed by his presentation, which was basically an expanded version of the four spiritual laws. Through his

I got involved as a second-year student at the U of A, Edmonton in September 1973 at the suggestion of my best friend, Bev Crook, who had connected with Campus Crusade at the University of Calgary the year before.
I actually cut short a campus tour I was doing with some first-year students because I saw a poster, advertising an event with Josh McDowell. I realized the event was happening right then. I gave the students directions to get back to the student residences on their own and I went to the meeting.
At the end of the presentation, I filled out a comment card and a few days later met up with a staff person who invited me to pray about getting involved. I was a pretty new Christian so I w

It all started when my sister was prompted by her pastor to go to an event in Green Lake, Wisconsin. She didn’t want to go by herself, so my wife and I came with her. We got there and found out it was called a “Lay Institute for Evangelism Seminar” done by an organization called Campus Crusade for Christ. Howard Ball did the messages and taught the seminars. Right from the start, I was impressed by how effective it was and yet simple. It didn’t take a Ph.D. to learn something. This message was for people who did not go to seminary school. It was for those who just sat in the pews. That’s what caught my attention – simple, transferable methods, all done in the power of the Holy Spirit. So, back home we held an exploratory meeting. We started teaching simple principles that we ga

The year was 1967, my senior year at the University of Alberta. At this point in my life, my knowledge of Campus Crusade for Christ was what I had read in a Moddy Monthly magazine.
An old friend informed me about two transfer students from UBC who wanted to start CCC ministry at U of A. Those two transfer students were none other than Harvey Wilkie and Hugh Little. I got involved with the campus ministry and found myself studying the Word as never before, sharing my faith, leading an Action Group, and getting involved in Church Speak Teams. I sold a brand new car so I could pay for my first year at UBC. I then found out Josh McDowell was assigned to be the campus director at UBC. With Josh at UBC, it was a very different set of circumstances. He was in the middle of starting Evidence That Demands a Verdict and so he was in the midst of doing a lot of different things. He also came and taught a Sunday School class at our church college and career class. In the fall of 1966, he decided we should take a number of kids to Arrowhead Springs for Christmas conference. He got on a plane and got himself a meeting with Walter Knotts from Knotts Berry Farm. He got $10,000 out of Walter, and the next thing you know, we’ve signed up 300 kids to go to Arrowhead. We

I’d grown up in a Christian home and made a childhood profession of faith at 7 years old. Through my teen years, I became aware of the need for a further commitment but was somewhat resistant to that. The idea of becoming straight-laced sober and sad wasn’t all that appealing, and I had the attitude that if got into a life and death situation I would just yell out “God save me!” at the last second.
In 1965, I was at some Billy Graham meetings. He made the point that you can’t come unless God draws you, and if God is speaking to you now, you better come. I responded to that invitation and joined a youth group.
