3 stories that could change your friend’s life

Have you ever been moved by a story? I have.

Recently I read Ashley’s story. She tried to destroy her life, but failed. God Himself showed up. Ashley heard the life-transforming message of Jesus and everything changed. It is amazing! It’s stories like Ashley’s that I want to share with the world to help them see that God’s love extends to them too.

I believe that if followers of Jesus can articulate that God is real, at work in our lives and that we follow Him, we can help our friends discover Jesus.

Here are 3 great ideas on how you can share stories that could change your friends’ lives.

3 Stories You Can Share:

1. Share someone else’s story

Whether you come across a story like Ashley’s, or my friend Jarrod’s My Story video testimony or The University of Saskatchewan’s My Story Youtube channel, share it with your friends and the people you care about.

SHARING TIPS

Don’t just share it passively, clogging up their Facebook wall with “hints” about Jesus. Be intentional. Write your thoughts about the post to help friends know why you are sharing it. Here is an example of how I recently shared Ashley’s story.

Send a direct message (DM) to invite them for coffee in the next few days because you want to hear their thoughts. Here’s what I did.

2. Share your own story

As a follower of Jesus, you have your own unique story. “It’s not dramatic,” you protest. It doesn’t matter.  You have a reason that you are following Jesus. Jesus has revealed himself to you and you experience him in your life, powerfully changing you. You may be surprised at how people, especially your friends, are interested in learning about these simple but curious realities.

SHARING TIPS

• Make your own My Story video (like Jarrod, or Rebecca). Get the My Story workbook and do it with some friends.
• Our “How to Prepare and Communicate Your Testimony Worksheet” is a fantastic tool to help you write out your testimony. Post your final version on your blog or Notes section of Facebook.

3. Live the story you want to share

James 2:18 says, “I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”  In addition to the two points above, you can share the story you want others to hear by living your life in a way that demonstrates God at work. This is the life God calls you to live.

Are you living a life of faith? Demonstrate that you believe God is in control and you have nothing to fear. Are you living a life of forgiveness and hope? Live your life and use your lips to tell the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. It won’t be long before someone will have their own story to tell because you told yours.
