Dear First Year Me,

Get ready. The next few years are going to be crazy.

You’ll feel the small rumblings at first. Little do you know, God’s hands are rising up from underneath you. He is going to sweep you away, taking you places you had never dreamed of.

You’re Gonna Study The Bible A Lot

And you’re going to love it.

Keep at it, and when you don’t love it as much as you once did, keep going. Seasons come and go, and sometimes things that are the most important don’t really feel all that important.

Train yourself for godliness and keep pressing forward.

The Same Goes For Prayer

It’s a really cool thing to be able to talk to the Creator of the universe and the God who saved you all those years ago. When it feels less cool, remember that talking with God is always the most important thing you can do. So keep doing it.

Things Are Going To Get Really Hard

You’re going to go through stuff you never thought would happen to you. And you’re going to wallow in self-pity for some of it.

Man up.

Fight sin and get help for the battle. Remember that it is by grace you will persevere.

Keep that positive attitude that you have, and remind yourself not to care what others think. At the same time, don’t pull away from people, especially your Christian brothers and sisters. You need them, and they need you, and you won’t learn to trust again until you let yourself be vulnerable with the right people.

You’re going to learn that Jesus is a way better planner than you and that he is sovereign. Nothing’s going to happen that he doesn’t know about and doesn’t have a plan for. You’re going to suffer so that you can help others. Learn to grasp and hold tightly to the hope that he gives, and let that be an anchor for your soul amidst it all.

Hold on tight.
