Unchanging hope in a changing world

The world seems to be constantly changing. The future seems so uncertain. Because it is.

What does it mean to hope when nothing is guaranteed?

I cannot hope that particular things will happen. I don’t know exactly what is coming next. But I can hope in God.

For me personally, I believe God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is the only true hope we all need. Follow me as I show you how God is my unchanging hope and how I trust him.

God’s word

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.’’

Matthew 24:35

First, I believe that God’s word never changes.

This gives me hope because I can trust what he says will come to pass. He will keep his promises. Even when they feel impossible or when I wonder if the Bible has been changed.

God’s character

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’’

Hebrews 13:8

Second, not only does God’s word not change, his character will also never change. Unlike us, he does not change his mind or his attitude towards us.

This gives me hope because I can be sure of who God is and what he is like. I do not have to worry about God’s actions changing based on his mood, even though my actions and feelings change all the time.

God’s salvation

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Romans 10:9-11

Since God’s word and character do not change, his plan of salvation also does not change.

This gives me hope because no matter how many times I fail him, he offers to forgive and set me free from my sins. Even when I feel guilty or ashamed, I can accept his offer, because it is real.

God’s love and comfort

“Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.”

Psalm 119:76

God’s love for us is unchanging. Before the foundation of the world, he extended his love towards us.

This gives me hope because I know there’s nothing that can separate me from his great love. I am loved, even when I do not feel loved or worthy of love

God’s presence by his Spirit

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5

It’s so comforting to know that wherever I am or whatever I’m doing, God is right beside me, taking an interest in me.

This gives me hope, because I’m never actually alone, even when I feel lonely.

God’s plans for me

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.’’

Jeremiah 29:11

It humbles me to know that I’m a part of God’s great plan. Although it’s not always clear what his plans are for my life, I can still trust him.

This gives me hope because I can know that he has everything under control when I feel out of control or don’t know what life choices to make. I know he’s up to something good even when life does not feel good.

Jesus has overcome the world

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

This is good news because God has the authority over every struggle I may face. As I live in and through him, I am also an overcomer.

As you can see, Jesus Christ is the best news because he gives true hope to those who believe.
