Despite former astronaut Julie Payette’s incredulity over people who still question whether the origin of life was by divine intervention or by some random natural process, there are other astronauts who believe there is a Creator, including the shuttle pilot for one of the missions she participated in.
Even a former astronaut can confuse scientism with science. Scientism is essentially atheism dressed up in a lab coat. The result is an unquestioning faith in the belief that science can explain everything, including the origin of love, beauty, and even nature itself.
Most people do not apply the same critical thinking skills and healthy skepticism to scientific publications that they do to political, historical and religious claims. This naive faith in peer-reviewed, scientific publications may be a mistake.
When science runs out of any plausible natural explanation, it has its own ‘god-of-the-gaps’ that it invokes to fill the empty space … a infinite or near-infinite number of universes it calls the multiverse.
