Pouring Out Living Water

Heather was sick and unable to go to campus. Back at the apartment, she prayed people would discover Jesus so they could experience the ‘streams of living water’ that Jesus described in John chapter 7,

“Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'” (John 7:37-38 ESV)

Meanwhile James was hanging out with Tami. When Tami asked again for a drink from Jon’s water, Jon (who has a habit of turning every conversation into a spiritual one) suggested that he could get her ‘living water’, a water that would truly satisfy.

A few days later, Tami phoned James to ask if they could meet. A few months ago, her father passed away and she was feeling overwhelmed with grief and the stress of supporting her family while continuing her college classes. James agreed, and invited Heather to come along.

That night Tami poured out her heart, and asked James and Heather for advice.  They took the opportunity to share their stories of personal encounters with Jesus and show her some passages from the Bible (which they happened to have in Tami’s language).

That’s when things began to click for her.

Her eyes began to light up as she encountered Jesus in the Bible. Before she left that evening, Heather and James were able to pray for her and give her the Bible. She said it was the best gift she had ever been given and that she would read it daily. She also said that this conversation and advice about her family situation was the first she had ever received that was truly satisfying.

Tami has not yet made a decision to follow Jesus, but she is well on her way. Would you pray that as she reads her new Bible, she would discover Jesus, the one who promises “rivers of living water” for those who believe in Him?

Penny meets new friends

After a challenging, but encouraging, six weeks in South Asia, it is the stories of changed lives that make it all worthwhile.

Our team of Canadians had the privilege of engaging 96 unique students in gospel-themed conversations. It was exciting to learn that many of these students are from ethnic people groups who currently have no self-sustaining Christian church (also known as: Unreached People Groups) indigenous to their people. Three students chose to begin following Jesus, and we were able to see these new believers share the gospel with their friends.

One of them was Penny.

After Penny met two of our Canadian participants, Orval and DJ, their friendship quickly brought them to discuss deeper life issues. It was during this time that Orval was able to share the gospel with Penny and her friend, Andrea. The message of Jesus grabbed their hearts and they made the life-changing decision to follow Jesus!

Soon after this, Penny told her mom about what had happened.

“So, you met Jesus!” her mom, a follower of Jesus, exclaimed.

“No mom, I just met Orval and DJ,”  she replied.

“Penny, don’t you see?” her mom retorted. “Jesus sent Orval and DJ to tell you about Him.”
