Going on a mission trip was life-changing for me. When I was there I was just saturated in God, knowing him and worshipping him. The gospel has changed me. It’s a privilege to be a part of what God is doing.

Desert Rain

Changed Hearts. Changed Lives. Changed Nation.

Our History: An Inspiring Legacy

There are times in history where God calls specific people to invest their lives in furthering the cause of the gospel in a foreign land. In 1998, this call was true for one Canadian family, who uprooted themselves to take the gospel to a land that was spiritually dry and deserted. It wasn’t until 2006, however, that Desert Rain became an official partnership, serving as a catalyst for our very first Canadian STINT (short term international) team in 2007.

Over the years, we have seen a profound change in the spiritual soil of Desert Rain. In the initial years of our partnership, there was a strong adherence to local religions, coupled with a deep resistance and rejection of Christianity.  Over time, however, we have seen an erosion of such staunch adherence to the local religion, along with a growing dissatisfaction with secularism. With each passing year, there is a deepening openness to consider Jesus as more than a teacher, but as Lord of all.

Our Vision: Changed Hearts. Changed Lives. Changed Nation.

We pray for our hearts to be broken for the Arab world and our hearts to be filled with compassion for those who have yet to hear the gospel.

We pray for our friends in Desert Rain as they encounter Jesus for the first time. We long for the day when new believers begin helping their families and communities know Jesus too.

And we pray that as hearts and lives are transformed through the gospel, this nation will also be changed. Our prayer is that streams of living water would pour out from this desert land into the rest of the Arab world.

What Your Year Will Look Like

During your year, you will have an opportunity to be a language and culture student. As you make friends in Desert Rain, you will have the opportunity to journey with students and share your life and faith with them. As your friends grow in their interest in who Jesus is, you will have the opportunity to study the Bible together to help them draw nearer to Jesus. You will learn how to contextualize the gospel as you share Jesus with students who may have never had an opportunity to encounter the living God!

As a team, you will live and work in deeper community than you may have ever experienced. Your team will become your family for the year, as you will worship, pray, minister and do life together. You will also receive training and direction from your team leaders, as well as mentorship from a mentor in Canada who will journey with you in your adventure in Desert Rain.
