Going on a mission trip was life-changing for me. When I was there I was just saturated in God, knowing him and worshipping him. The gospel has changed me. It’s a privilege to be a part of what God is doing.

Why an international digital mission trip?

During this pandemic, individuals and communities are moving their social connections online on a global scale. As we’ve had to cancel our mission trips, and in-person interactions, we are asking ourselves, “What opportunities does God have for us to engage with university students around the world during this pandemic?”

The reality is that university students are already engaged with online social networks, and we have the opportunity to meet them in those spaces and journey with them. As a missional community, we want to discover, explore, learn and try new digital strategies to reach students in Desert Rain and River of Light where we have an existing long term partnership. We hope that this mission trip will not only help us learn new things about online missional engagement, but help us grow holistically as faithful, missional Christians.

How will we engage in God’s work?

We will be joining our Desert Rain and River of Light STINTers (Short-Term International Interns) as they meet students online through: facebook/instagram advertising, wechat, running online english corners, and continuing friendships that were started in the past. We invite you to brainstorm and explore new ideas that we dream up together. This is something we have never done before, so it will be an adventure for us all.

What will this mission trip look like?

This will be a commitment of 15 hours each week. Mission trip activities will take place during the 9am – 7pm window of time on Monday to Friday, with the following components:

  1. Mission trip gatherings to:
    • Brainstorm and ideate
    • Pray for the world
    • Grow in spiritual practice and rhythms
    • Training and workshops on sharing and contextualizing the gospel
    • Bible study
    • Personal discipleship
  2. Digital ministry
    • Implement online ministry ideas
    • Build relationships and community with students in River of Light and Desert Rain

** Note: Hours spent in digital ministry may change week to week as we learn more about engaging with students internationally across our different time zones.
