“I didn’t realize how many nations were represented in Canada, how simple it was to serve them, and how many friends I would make, until I went on this trip. Most of all, I didn’t expect how God would use this trip to change me, to have a heart for the nations, and apply what I’ve learned in my home city.”

Lucy, 2024

Why go on the Nations Next Door mission trip?

Many nations are restricted or challenging to enter. But God has brought students from these countries to study right here in Canada.

The nations are on your campus.
The nations are just down the street.
The nations are next door!

International students desire connection and friendship with people who have genuine love and concern for them. You have an incredible opportunity to welcome those who have left their family, friends, and country to attend a Canadian school.

As you share the love of Christ with them, you can have a global impact from right here in Canada.

What happens during Nations Next Door?

Over the course of a month, you’ll come alongside international students practically, relationally, and spiritually, so that they might know God’s great love for them and experience life in him.

You’ll also live in a community with a shared mission. Together you’ll deepen your relationship with Jesus and your understanding of God’s heart for the nations.

In a typical week you will:

  • Pray, worship, and study God’s Word together
  • Learn about different cultures and how to contextualize the gospel
  • Build cross-cultural friendships through food and fun
  • Plan activities to love and serve international students: potlucks, sports and games nights, English corners, and/or talent shows
  • Talk with new friends about deeper things, your stories, and God
  • Experience team building and fun
  • Explore the city and visit sites of interest

Because you’ll be learning to connect cross-culturally in Canada, you’ll be able to apply your experiences to your own local environment after this trip.

If you’re a Canadian student or an international student studying in Canada, you’re welcome to come with us!

3 things to highlight about Nations Next Door

Co-creation: You’ll collaborate with your team to shape what happens on this trip, which is organic and flexible enough to respond to the opportunities, interests, and skills you bring.

Transferable: You’ll practise ministry in a Canadian context, allowing you to be better prepared to serve international students and other newcomers in your own city.

Cross-cultural friendships: You’ll develop genuine friendships with people from different countries, cultures, and worldviews. You’ll learn about other cultures from these international students, including Christians who know what it’s like to follow Jesus in another context.

Note on applying: To protect the privacy of your personal information, our online project application tool (the “PAT”) now uses two-factor authentication from Okta. You’ll find instructions on how to use and troubleshoot Okta when you apply
