Power to Change – Students (P2C-Students) is committed to modeling the way of Jesus in this time as we follow the directives of our public health officials in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We aim to be courageous, wise, and loving in our response to this situation. We have put measures in place to keep our communities and our neighbours healthy and safe, while continuing to pursue the mission that God has given us. Read more about P2C-Students’ initial response to COVID-19.

P2C-Students remains committed to following the guidelines and rules that are set federally, provincially, and locally. We also consider the rules and operations of individual universities and colleges, and the impact that has on how we can conduct our ministry activities presently and in the future.

Student Ministry

During this pandemic, we have worked hard to stay relevant and active in the lives of students, even from a distance. In March, we quickly migrated many of our ministry activities online. In April, we discerned and planned for the short-term and long-term adaptations we needed to make in light of COVID-19. We count it a privilege to be able to come alongside students in a season like this to give them hope, to help them experience how God is at work in their lives and the world, and to help them grow closer to him.

Our staff continue to journey with students and lead our campus communities from a distance. Students are also growing in faith as they explore our online blog articles, resources, and podcasts that speak to the specific needs and questions they have in this moment of crisis.

As we continue to adapt our activities throughout the summer months and fall semester, the heart of our ministry remains: helping students know Jesus. Looking towards September, we know we will need to be flexible. We are actively preparing for alternatives to some of the meaningful ministry opportunities that we will not be able to offer in person this fall.

This spring and summer, Christian students will be hosting an online Alpha course and inviting their non-Christian friends to explore Jesus and Christianity in a small group setting. We are also preparing for alternative opportunities, such as online conferences for the 2020-21 school year. As well, we are working on releasing new podcasts and YouTube content that will encourage, equip, and inspire students.

International Digital Mission Trip

Beginning in May, P2C-Students has facilitated an international digital mission trip. Participants are using digital strategies to reach students in Desert Rain and East Asia, the names we use for two areas of the world where we have existing long-term partnerships. A group of 56 students and P2C-Students staff are participating in this mission trip. Already they have witnessed one student in another part of the world accept Jesus and there have been many more meaningful gospel conversations.

Online Annual Event

On Friday, April 17, P2C-Students hosted an online event, featuring stories of encouragement and hope from the past school year. We hosted this online event in light of cancelling all of our in-person events across Canada. You can still watch a recording of the online broadcast to hear stories of lives changed because of Jesus.

P2C-Students Staff

In order to comply with government recommendations regarding physical distancing, we have requested that any staff who normally work in an office environment or on campus continue working from home for the foreseeable future. We want to care for our staff and their families, and all those with whom they would come in contact. For our local campus groups that have been meeting virtually, we are asking them to continue meeting virtually when possible. In the case of any physical gathering, we ask our staff and students to: 1) meet outdoors, 2) adhere to local health authority limits, and 3) observe strict two-metre physical distancing.

As a ministry, we are doing what we can to help and support our students in this difficult time. We continue to journey with students as they discover the relevance of Jesus for all of life.

Thank you for your support and concern. We covet your prayers, not only for the post-secondary students we are ministering to, but also the staff of P2C-Students as we lead through this challenging time. Regardless of the disruptions we may face in the coming months, we are deeply committed to passionately helping students know Jesus and calling them to be part of God’s mission in the world.
