Story and Song: DRIME presents a benefit concert with Carolyn Arends

For over two decades, DRIME has been using story and song to make Jesus inescapable on street corners around the world. Through their unique choreographed dramas, they open up opportunities to start spiritual conversations and share the gospel. Now they have an exciting new vision for the next three years.

“We currently have 15 DRIME teams and our vision is to have 20 new teams in 20 new cities by 2020,” says Lillian Frederiksen, the International Director of DRIME. Lillian sees the ministry entering a new season. “During the first decade of ministry, we were just one team in Vancouver. In the second decade, DRIME began expanding to new countries, but the expansion came from Canada, where they would go plant bases and train locals.”

“Now many of our teams are established, they’ve been trained, they’re doing awesome ministry and they have the vision to multiply,” says Lillian, “so the growth is coming from all of our teams, not just from here.”

To support this vision, DRIME will be hosting a benefit concert with award-winning singer-songwriter Carolyn Arends on February 18th at North Langley Community Church.

“Our theme is Story and Song,” says Lillian and Carolyn Arends will weave this theme throughout the night with her warm and inviting style.

“Carolyn is a friend of the ministry,” Lillian adds, but that’s not all that made her a great fit for this event. Many of Arends’ songs speak to the power of stories and both DRIME and Arends believe stories are an ideal way to share the gospel.

“That is often what Jesus used to tell and show us what it means to have eternal life,” says Lillian. “He would tell us through a story.”

While Arends will be the main feature of the night, there will also be an opportunity to watch a drama presentation from DRIME, as well as hear stories from people about their encounters and conversations sparked by DRIME.

“The hope of the night is that you would come and encounter Jesus through story and song,” says Lillian, “but also hear about how people are encountering Jesus through DRIME around the world.”

“We have found it so much easier to have a spiritual conversation based on the story that you’re watching,” she adds. “Somehow that breaks down barriers. The dramas have evolved through the years, but the central part of the DRIME drama is that there is a story, the gospel is being represented and it’s something that we all can connect with.”
